Photo Friday: Sea Lions

In December of 2005 my family went to the Galapagos Islands. The trip was absolutely amazing, and we all saw so many amazing things we’d never seen before. Amongst my favorites, were all of the Sea Lions. They are literally EVERYWHERE on the islands and I’d never seen one before. They’re truly fascinating creatures, and recently I looked through my family’s pictures and saw some great ones. Below are some of my favorites from the trip. Though I did take some, I definitely didn’t take all of them. In fact, the first picture is me with a Sea Lion! I’m not sure which cameras or family members took which pictures, but they’re great none-the-less. Check them out, and if you’ve ever got the chance to go to the Galapagos, DO IT!

There is something about tree branches growing out of places other than the ground/a tree trunk, that make for a totally awesome photo! This one is no exception, if you ask me.

This is in Israel on the border of Lebanon. Though the border is peaceful, it is not friendly. At this point you are well within the view of the people watching from the tower just inside Lebanon’s border. I got the opportunity to plant a kiwi plant right in their line of vision. It was an exhilarating experience, to say the least.

This might be my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. When I went to the Taj Mahal I had hoped to get this epically amazing photograph of the Taj, and its reflection perfectly visible in the water below. Sadly, when I went, it was raining and that photo was not even close to possible. When I went to the Dead sea, I was able to get that totally awesome effect. How cool is this photo? The water’s reflection is so peaceful and the color of the mountains in the sunlight is just gorgeous. I’m so proud of this one.

I mean, come on, she’s like a freaking cat model. How adorable is this photo?

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
From the black and white to the shadows, this photo is freaking sweet. That is my sister and I giving peace signs, and I think the downward angle of the photo makes it pretty cool!

This photo of the papyrus plants is unique for a few reasons. I love how clear the plants in the front are, while the ones in the back completely blur together. Does this make anyone else think of that Dr. Seuss book?

This view of the water is only made more beautiful from this windowsill’s divisions. Sometimes, imperfections make for the best photos.

This photo was nothing special, until I edited it. Adjusting the shadows and sharpness made the sky look pretty cool. And, I love that you can tell the photo was taken through a window, it gives the photo a “fake” feel.
*EEK– I was just reminded that I didn’t take this photo, a friend did and then I edited it! SORRY KEV, THANKS!!

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
This one is kind of cheating, because it’s just a photo I took of a mural. But, it’s about the city of Philadelphia, which I freaking love, and I think it’s awesome. So I don’t care.

All those boats lined up like that. It’s perfect.

Photo Friday: Flowers

Tomorrow is a big day for me, as I am taking the LSATs for the 2nd (and final) time — EEEEEK. So, my wonderful mommy is guest blogging for me on this Photo Friday! [All of  her photos are taken with the Canon PowerShot A3000IS89 which I got for her in a total deal on Amazon. Only $79 for the camera, 4 gig memory card and a case. That deal was only available for a short time, but there's always deals like that!] Anyway, she spends her summers in Italy (yea, I know…) and she constantly sees unbelievable sights. Since there’s so much for her to choose from, she thought it might be best to do a topic. And, with tha I’ll leave you with her short but sweet intro!

Real or artificial?  Real, of course!  These gorgeous flowers were all blooming in Italy this past summer.   Enjoy!

I know, I know, talent runs in the family, hehe. Love my mommy — she’s the best!

Photo Friday: Animals

As I started picking out photos for this week’s Photo Friday, I found some great animal shots from my past. Animals can really make for a great photo. Here are some of my favorites…

Up close and personal. He’s the same color as the background, but he stands out so much!

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
It’s like he knew I was taking a picture of him… makes me wonder what he’s thinking ….and then I remember that he’s a Zebra.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
Part of the reason I love this photo is because I am weirdly obsessed with my cat. Just look how cute she is!!! I mean, clearly she’s not ready for the photo and still she looks faboosh. Such a star, she is.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
I got up close and personal with this lil’ guy and this picture just turned out so crisp and clear. I love it.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
I mean… how cute is he?!

Taken with: iPhone 4
You might be wondering, is this a photo of an animal? Well, yes, it sure is! It’s a scorpion with a black light shining down on it. Bet you didn’t know that scorpions glow in black light. Part of me loves this photo because of the black light, but it also happens to be the first (and only) scorpion I’ve ever seen. Pretty freakin’ cool…

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
Again, it’s like he’s looking right at me. And man, do I want to get out of his way.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
I wish camels were a normal form of transportation in the US. How much do you want to take a ride on one? It was pretty cool, and this picture is pretty cool too,  if I do say so myself. And I do.

Taken with: iPhone 4
This is one of my parents’ cats. I guess she just wanted to do her fair share around the house… how sweet she’s helping momma with the dishes!

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
Yep, I saw this. Watched an elephant eat while on a safari at Krueger National Park in South Africa. Had to be perfectly still and not make a sound while this was happening – couldn’t really breathe – but it was still pretty freaking awesome.

I mean, how peaceful does that look? I would do anything to be sitting out there all alone, just staring at the open ocean.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot SD-1400 IS 14.1
This is taken in Tel Aviv. There’s something about the contrast of the water’s color with the buildings that caught my eye for this one. I know water should be blue, but I love how green it is here.

Just your average Joe walking down the street in a small town ….in Jordan.

My sister and cousin just contemplating life. So peaceful and awesome at the same time.

Nothing like a good ol’ action shot. The drunken antics of my friends in a friendly brawl made for a pretty great memory if you ask me.

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
This photo was taken at a Brazilian soccer match. I had heard that the fans were wild, but nothing prepared me for what I saw. They went absolutely insane and, honestly, this picture does it no justice! I love the way fans, though they might not know each other, come together to cheer for a team they love!

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot ELPH 300 HS
This plate of spaghetti looks like brains. That is all.

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
While in India, I got the chance to meet some absolutely wonderful and interesting people. This man was one of them. I love this picture because he’s staring directly at the camera. It’s like he sees right through me.

Taken with: Canon – PowerShot ELPH 300 HS
I mean, when the sky is orange, how much cooler can it look? Love it!

Taken with: Canon - PowerShot SD-750 7.1
This photo was taken in Hawaii on a windy day. I used the color accent feature, set it to green, and let the wonderful scenery do the work. I’d love to go back there.

Photo Friday: Arts Fest

Every summer Penn State has a 5 day arts festival, more commonly known by the students as Arts Fest. While it’s a great time for the students to get wild with their friends, it’s also an amazing street festival with awesome food, crafts show with lots of beautiful art, and a great place to bring your kids. These pictures are from the 2009 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. The festival takes place in early July every summer and it can be pretty hot. This summer was no exception, and when I saw these children playing under this water dumping machine, I knew I had to snap some photos! Enjoy…
